I grew up walking the halls of Rocky Ridge Elementary, Berry Middle, and Spain Park High School. I learned the power of teamwork on the basketball court under coaches like Kelly Holland and Gena Morris, who taught me that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about grit, preparation, and stepping up when called.
One defining moment came during my sophomore year at Spain Park. I had settled into my role on the JV basketball team when Coach Morris pulled me aside and said she saw something in me—a determination that could make a difference on varsity. She asked me to step up.
It was an exciting opportunity but also terrifying. Varsity meant faster games, tougher competition, and higher expectations. I wondered: Was I ready? Would I let my team down? But my parents reminded me of something they had always taught me: Sometimes, life calls you to rise—even when you don’t feel ready.
So, I said yes. The transition was difficult. I doubted myself at times—missed shots, turnovers, grueling practices where I felt out of place. But each time I stumbled, I reminded myself why I had stepped up: to grow, to contribute, to prove to myself that I could rise to the challenge. That season changed me. It taught me that real growth happens when you leave your comfort zone.
Today, I carry that lesson in every part of my life—as a mother to Taylor and Miles, as a professional, and as an advocate for my community. Hoover shaped me, and now I feel a deep responsibility to give back to ensure it remains a place where families can thrive, where children find lifelong friendships, and where opportunities aren’t just maintained but expanded. Because when we’re called to rise, we must answer.
A vote for Team Ashley is a vote for Hoover.
